Do I Need a Will or a Trust?

One of the most common questions families ask is whether they need a Will or a Trust. The answer depends on your goals, assets, family situation, and how much control you want over the transfer of your estate.

A Last Will and Testament allows you to document your wishes, name guardians for minor children, and direct how your assets should be distributed. However, a Will generally goes through probate, which is a court-supervised process that can take time and create additional expenses for loved ones.

A Revocable Living Trust, on the other hand, can help avoid probate, maintain privacy, and provide a more efficient transfer of assets. Trusts can also offer additional flexibility for blended families, business owners, real estate investors, and those who wish to provide ongoing guidance for beneficiaries.

The good news is that estate planning is not an either-or decision. Many comprehensive estate plans include both a Trust and a Will, along with other important documents that work together to protect your family.

The most important step is not choosing a document—it's creating a plan.

At LEGACY LYFE Plan, we help families understand their options and determine the planning strategy that best fits their goals.

Because protecting your legacy starts with understanding your choices.
